Sea Creatures Tile Series: Wall Hanging or Table Top

These signed handmade stoneware art tile works by David Crane are framed in aluminum and designed to hang on the wall or as low tables with easily-attached sabre style legs. The frame and legs are full-round edge, electrical grade aluminum. The aluminum can easily be spray painted to resemble wrought iron, depending on your decor.

The clay, mixed with beach sand to the consistency of cake icing, is spread into a large slab from which the tiles are cut. The organic tile shapes often create an underlying motion within the piece. The glazes, which include local ‘native’ clay, are thin layers of glass whose beauty and depth are revealed only after firing to 2200 degrees (1200 C).

Themes are often geocentric, mindful of the fundamental elements of earth, water, air and fire, as well as the environment.
